Graphic Design

Franklin Covey

At my current role with Franklin Covey as a Senior Graphic Designer, I worked closely with the art director to refresh the Leader in Me brand as well as create numerous deliverables such as presentations, workbooks, merchandise, and illustrations. Considering our target audience is mainly school-aged children and their educators, we wanted to present the brand as more friendly and approachable. To accomplish this, we landed on soft, organic shapes as a main design element as well as ensuring that there are no harsh angles in our designs by frequently using rounded rectangles and circles.  Feel free to scroll through the below samples of just a few deliverables I designed following these new brand standards.

Branding

Here you’ll see a few pages from the updated brand guidelines that I designed to ensure that the new brand is upheld throughout the company. It includes guidelines for graphic elements, typography, and imagery followed by examples of usage.

Participant Guide

Participant Guides are an essential resource for educators to utilize to learn about Leader in Me content. They include pertinent information about the material so they are designed to be very straight forward but still have that light-hearted touch with the organic shape motif established by the brand.

Symposium '24

Symposium is an annual conference put on by the Franklin Covey Education Division. This year I was tasked with designing marketing materials for this event including social media posts, emails, flyers, and signage. The objective was to emulate the Leader in Me brand but still different enough to be recognized as Symposium. To accomplish this, I worked closely with the art director and another designer to nail down a monochrome color palette, and a solid design direction including the organic shapes and circles.

Extended Learning

I had the pleasure of illustrating 5 booklets that are a part of the Education division’s “Extended Learning” program. Elementary through high school students attend this course to learn the fundamentals of leadership through hands-on activities that are powered by ideas presented in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. The Illustration style of these booklets is intended to be whimsical, simple, and imperfect. They are meant to inspire creativity in the children and encourage them to create. The example below is from the Exploration Series which is based off of a jungle theme.

Lantern Press

At Lantern Press I was the company’s first designer dedicated to designing for the brand. This included establishing a consistent brand, designing marketing materials, packaging, catalogs, event graphics, and an overhaul of their retail website.

Retail Website

This project seamlessly blends creativity and functionality, providing an intuitive and visually captivating experience for users navigating through the diverse collection of art prints and lifestyle products that Lantern Press has to offer. Clean lines, a harmonious color palette, and thoughtful typography contribute to a visually engaging interface that encourages exploration. The responsive design ensures a seamless transition between devices, catering to the dynamic preferences of modern online shoppers. View the Figma prototype here

At the beginning of the design process, after the research phase with the team, I started with creating wireframes to convey the general idea of how the site would function.

Protect Our National Parks Collection

This collection features illustrations of all 63 national parks that are displayed on various products such as a puzzle, water bottle, memory game, magnets, and stickers. As the brand designer, I was responsible for creating not only the logo of the collection, but also packaging and a catalog that presents the collection to wholesale customers in a way that is easily digestible. I also designed the cornerstone piece of the collection, the company’s best-selling design, a collage of all 63 artworks that can be found in many National Park gift shops around the country.

Trade Shows

Lantern Press attends souvenir trade shows every year. As a part of my role I designed large graphics, catalogs, table signs, and even some of the artwork that is displayed on their products. This brand is all about showcasing their illustrative art so my goal for branding the booths was to let the art speak for itself which translated to collages and blown up prints of their most popular styles with a little hint of branding.
